Understanding Leather
Just as no two persons have the exact same skin type, no two leather hides are the same.  Most of our
leathers are aniline dyed for the richest, most natural product available.
 This means that a
transparent dye has been absorbed and locked into the hide, creating the color and patina.  Only a
small percentage of all available hides can be used for this product.  Aniline dyed leather is
intended
to feature the characteristics of the hide
, such as some scars, fat and neck wrinkles, and highs and
lows in the shading.
These qualities are inherent and should in no way be considered defects and
will vary from one hide to the next.
Aniline leathers can be broken down into three categories:

1. Pure or "Naked" -- Aniline dyed leathers with no additional "sealer" or topcoat added.  These
leathers will tend to vary in shade, will mark and show the natural characteristics of the hide.  They
are the most expensive and will develop a richer patina with time.

2.
Protected Aniline -- These leathers are aniline dyed and have an applied topcoat or polyurethane
finish, making them impervious to most spills and stains.
These leathers will vary slightly in shade
and will show some natural characteristics of the hide.

3.
Semi-Aniline -- These leathers are aniline dyed and have a finishing process or topcoat that
contains dye.
This topcoat evens out color tone throughout the hide and can disguise some natural
characteristics.
